Thigh Lift FAQs

What is a “thigh lift” operation?
Thigh lifts are designed to remove loose skin from either the outer thigh and hip area, or from the inner thigh area. These are known as “lateral thigh lifts” and “medial thigh lifts”, respectively.

Who is a candidate for surgery?
Generally, people who have a lot of loose skin on either the inner or outer thigh – typically after a large amount of weight loss.

Sounds great. Is there a scar?
Yes. The scar from the outer thigh lift curves around the hip area, in the area covered by most underwear. The inner thigh lift scar is at the top of the leg, and may extend down the inseam area of the thigh, depending on the amount of loose skin. So, these operations represent a trade: improved contour in exchange for a scar.

Couldn’t I just do liposuction instead?
Liposuction relies on good skin elasticity for a good result. If your skin is already loose, or has poor elasticity, liposuction may make the situation look worse – by “deflating” the area. Liposuction can not tighten skin, so we have to remove the loose skin surgically, which is the principle behind the thigh lift.

I’ve had a tummy tuck, but I still have a droopy buttock and thighs. Will a thigh lift fix that?
Yes – if we extend the incision “all the way around”, we can lift the buttock.

Can you combine the inner thigh lift and the outer thigh lift at the same time?
Dr. Fiala will assess your situation, and see if this would be a safe and reasonable combination for you.
