Neck Lift (Lower Rhytidectomy) Plastic Surgery Procedure StepsLower rhytidectomy, commonly known as neck lift cosmetic surgery, can have a dramatic impact on the overall facial look by creating a sculpted neck appearance. The surgeon will remove excess skin from the neck area, and may sometimes restructure the underlying loose or separated neck muscles.
At the time of the initial consultation, the surgeon will discuss the steps involved in the neck lift surgery procedure. The first goal of a responsible surgeon will be to apprise the patient about all aspects of neck lift and help them make an informed choice. Board certified plastic surgeon Dr. Thomas Fiala provides neck lift to patients in Orlando, Altamonte Springs, FL, and surrounding communities and cities in North Florida.

Preparation

Neck lift aesthetic surgery will require some advance preparation to ensure that the patient is fit for the procedure. The patient will be encouraged to have a balanced diet and follow a regular fitness regimen in the weeks preceding the surgery.
They will be required to avoid using tobacco, blood thinning drugs, certain prescription meds, vitamins and herbal supplements, and reduce the intake of sugary and fatty foods. The surgeon will also provide instructions for the day of the surgery, and ask the patient to refrain from eating or drinking for about eight hours before the surgery.

Anesthesia

Neck lift surgery will be performed using general or local anesthesia, depending on the circumstances of the case. General anesthesia will be performed by anesthesiologist or a nurse anesthetist who will be present through the surgery to monitor the patient’s response.
The patient’s general medical condition and health parameters will be evaluated in advance to determine their fitness for general anesthesia.

Incision Placement

Following anesthesia, the surgeon will begin the procedure by making incisions in pre-determined locations as per the neck lift cosmetic surgery plan. A skilled surgeon will use small incisions, which may be placed under the chin and behind the ears to keep the subsequent scarring discreet.
In any case, the location and size of the incisions can vary depending on the amount of skin and fat removal involved, and whether any additional facial or neck procedure is required.

Surgery

If the patient only has stubborn fat tissue deposits in the neck, the surgeon may perform just a simple liposuction process to improve the neck contours. However, other patients may require more significant changes through removal of excess skin and fat along with tightening of the underlying neck muscles.
Neck fat tissue may be removed through surgical excision in some patients. A portion of the platysma muscle may have to be removed to tighten the slack neck muscles.

Wound Closure

When the surgeon has completed the necessary work to tighten the underlying neck tissue and muscle, they will re-drape the overlying skin smoothly. The incisions will be carefully closed using traditional or dissolvable sutures. Any excess will be trimmed away at this point.
If neck lift is performed along with facelift or other facial surgeries, the steps in the procedure may be slightly altered. Experienced, accomplished, and fabulous cosmetic surgeon Dr. Fiala receives patients from Orlando, Altamonte Springs, FL, and nearby areas for neck lift.
