Why Winter Is a Great Time for Plastic Surgery

Why Winter Is a Great Time for Plastic Surgery

Posted on January 31, 2019

Even in central Florida, winter isn’t a favorite season for most. However, it is the perfect time for plastic surgery. The shorter days and colder temperatures are conducive to recovering fully and comfortably before showing off your new body come summer. Whether you’ve been thinking about a cosmetic procedure for some time now, or have an area of your body you’d like to alter or enhance, consider making an appointment soon so you can take advantage of plastic surgery during the winter months.

While plastic surgery will ultimately enhance your physical appearance, you’ll likely have scars, bruises or swelling that will need time to heal following your procedure. You may also have to wear wound dressings or compression garments as you heal. During the winter, long sleeves and pants, sweaters, scarves and hats can help hide the signs of your procedure while you recover. You’ll also enjoy colder temperatures that won’t cause the sweating, itching and chafing all too common in the humid Florida summers.

It’s Easy to Stay Inside

To get the best results from your procedure, you’ll want to adhere to your doctor’s recommendations before moving about and resuming physical activity. With less sunshine and outdoor activities taking place here in Florida, you won’t feel as though you’re missing out on all the fun while you rest. This will give you the perfect excuse to curl up in bed with a movie or book and allow your body to recuperate.

It’s Cold and Dark

It’s not hard to avoid the sun during the overcast winter months, and doing so will significantly reduce the potential of swelling and scarring following plastic surgery. Most doctors recommend avoiding the sun during the first one to two weeks following plastic surgery — this is when your body will be doing most of its healing — and will remind patients to be liberal about sunscreen and sun protection during and even after this time period. Facial procedures such as face, forehead and eyelid lifts are especially prone to sunburn, so longer periods of sun avoidance may be necessary. In a state that gets plenty of sunshine, it’s particularly important to wear sunscreen regardless of the cloud coverage. According to the American Academy of Dermatology, up to 80 percent of the sun’s rays can penetrate skin on cloudy days.

You Can Prep Your Beach Bod

If you do opt for plastic surgery in the winter, your skin will be ready to face the sunshine come summer. By getting your procedure months before the warm weather hits, you’ll ensure you’ve recovered in full and can show off your body with confidence. If you were to wait until summer to schedule your procedure, you may have to miss out on activities and social outings. You may also not fully recover until the fall months, depending on the procedure.

There Are Fewer Social Obligations

After the busyness of the holidays, your social calendar will slow down. Use this to your advantage and spend your extra time sleeping, relaxing and recovering. One of the best steps you can take for yourself following plastic surgery is scheduling downtime.
