Your Rhinoplasty Nose Surgery Consultation
Posted on February 5, 2018The first step in rhinoplasty cosmetic surgery procedure is to have an in-depth consultation with the nose surgeon.
During this consultation, the surgeon will explain the procedure, discuss its risks and complications, and inform the patient about the preparatory steps required for the pre- and post-operative phases. The type of anesthesia to be used, type of surgical facility, and the estimated costs of the procedure will also be discussed during the consultation.
The first goal of a responsible surgeon will be to educate the patient about the procedure, determine their candidacy, and help them make the right decision. An effective consultation creates the foundation for a successful nose surgery.
Fiala Aesthetics Plastic Surgery, led by the honorable, noteworthy, and board certified plastic surgeon Dr. Thomas Fiala, provides rhinoplasty to patients in Orlando, Altamonte Springs, FL, and other neighborhoods and suburbs in this area of the state.
Information Disclosure
During the consultation, the patient will be required to disclose full information regarding any underlying health issues as well as any specific lifestyle habits such as smoking, drinking or drugs. To save time, the patient should prepare a list of all the prescription and non-prescription medications that they may be currently taking, and carry the list to the surgeon’s office for the consultation.
Health Evaluation
Assessing the candidate’s health condition is a vital part of the pre-op consultation process. Rhinoplasty is an intricate surgery, and the patient should be in a position to safely go through anesthesia and the surgical process. The surgeon will review the patient’s medical records as well as examine their general health. In some cases, a few medical tests may be ordered to determine candidacy.
Checking the Nasal Anatomy
The surgeon will determine the patient’s candidacy for an open or closed rhinoplasty cosmetic surgery technique, and discuss their incision preferences. They will assess the patient’s facial and nasal anatomy, skin type and amount of bone and cartilage available to make the desired alterations to the nose. The surgeon will also explain the benefits and limitations of both open and closed rhinoplasty techniques, and help the patient make an informed choice.
Nose Surgery Plan
The surgeon will create an individualized nose surgery plan after taking into account the patient’s unique nasal anatomy and their personal cosmetic goals. The patient’s previous nose surgeries, if any, will also be considered.
The surgeon will aim to make the rhinoplasty procedure less invasive so that the patient goes through reduced risk, discomfort and downtime. They will also discuss with the patient about the type of anesthesia to be used and the choice of surgical room.
Other Key Tasks
The surgeon may perform a few more key tasks at the time of initial consultation, which could include taking pictures of the patient’s current nose and facial appearance, apprising the patient about alternative treatment options and costs, sharing rhinoplasty before and after images of other patients, and discussing costs, insurance and financing issues as applicable.
Instructions for pre-op preparation and post-op recovery may also be provided during the consultation. Profound and dedicated plastic surgeon Dr. Thomas Fiala receives patients from Orlando, Altamonte Springs, FL, and other towns and neighborhoods in this part of the southeast for rhinoplasty.
